A Minimum Viable Product (MVP) is a version of a service or product that enables you to gain validated learning about your customers while spending the minimum amount of resources. You may have heard about the MVP from lean startup or customer development methodology. I find that it's a method that is often talked about -- yet misunderstood. That's why this course exists.
This course takes an analytic approach to the MVP. One of the goals is for everyone to learn by doing.
This course runs across 2 in-person sessions of 1.5 hours each (we can stay to talk afterward). The course includes:
- A set of readings to prepare you.
- Examples from successful MVPs as a way to brainstorm MVPs you could try.
- Designing MVP experiments and collecting data.
- Between the first and second sessions, I recommend that everyone go out and attempt to run an MVP of their own, collect data and be prepared to discuss it in the last class.
- Using AARRR metrics (Acquisition, Activation, Retention, Referral, Revenue), Split-testing and Cohort Metrics as a decision-making toolset longer-term.
- A sample data set that we will look at as a descriptive decision-making tool. I will stick to using Excel for this, since I want to focus on looking at data, rather than database queries. (Bringing a laptop is optional.)
This course is for: startup people, corporate employees working on product development, marketers, people who want to eventually run a startup, or anyone who just wants to learn about this useful set of tools.
This course is run by Paul Orlando, who leads the Startup Bootcamp program. He's also employed MVPs in his old startup and with consulting clients.
At the end of each session I will have drinks available while we continue the discussion after class has finished. This is the 2nd time I've run this course.
